Little Bill Tribute Project: musicians from all over the region come together to pay tribute to veteran bluesman Little Bill Engelhart ("Little Bill & the Bluenotes") and his music. From the internationally-known Merrilee Rush ("Angel in the Morning") to slide-guitar ace Henry Cooper, 'bone man Randy Oxford and "Women In Blues" star Patti Allen, to Junkyard Jane vets Leanne Trevalyan (with the Immanuel Presbyterian Blues Vespers All-Stars) and Billy Roy Danger (with the Rectifiers), the show is a collection of the most gifted musicians the northwest has ever produced.

Songs of a Northwest Legend: The Little Bill Project
by J. Henderson

Most blues fans in the South Sound area have had the opportunity to hear and enjoy the music of Bill Engelhart of "Little Bill and the Blue Notes" and already appreciate what an amazing contribution the man has made to the Pacific Northwest music scene. During his more than 50 year career, Bill has garnered countless awards, including recognition by the Experience Music Project , as a Northwest music pioneer. With more than 12 recordings to his credit, Bill has also given us many wonderful original songs, beginning with his national hit, "I Love An Angel," and continuing through decades of blues compositions. He has also been a role model and mentor for countless musicians in the Pacific Northwest. One of these - blues trombonist, former "Blue Note," and close personal friend, Randy Oxford - decided that the time is right to put together a tribute to Little Bill and his music.

With Bill's enthusiastic consent, Randy has gathered the resources necessary to create a CD of Little Bill originals, featuring a stellar lineup of musicians, each creating his/her own interpretation of a Little Bill composition. The music is as varied as musicians, who include many of Bill's associates and friends old and new, as well as longtime admirers eager to pay tribute. It's the Blues, people, although some of the songs rock and others swing, shuffle or glide. Together they present a glimpse into the life of the consummate working musician. It's a tribute to Little Bill that this project has resulted so many beautiful performances.

To celebrate the release of the Cd - "A Tribute to the Music of Little Bill Engelhart "- The Broadway Center For the Performing Arts, in cooperation with Blues Vespers and Oxford Entertainment, will be hosting a gala Cd Release Party at the Rialto Theater, Saturday, March 28. Little Bill will perform, as well as several of the artists on the CD, including Merrilee Rush, Randy Oxford, who will be performing the songs they recorded for the project as well as a few of their own. The Cd itself will be available for purchase that night.

Proceeds from the sale of the CD's will be donated to the Dystonia Foundation, a charity dear to Bill's heart, as his son Tony was diagnosed with this debilitating movement disorder some years ago. In Bill's mind (and Randy's) this tribute is also about Bill's admiration for his son's bravery as he deals with dystonia. Tony's response to the projected contribution to the Foundation is that the resulting research may help someone who is in worse shape than he. You can learn more about the foundation from their web site, www.dystonia-foundation.org.

Each artist will be debuting their own interpretation of a Little Bill composition in music that is as varied as the musicians themselves... some songs rock, others swing, shuffle or glide. There's some funk, a little rockabilly, but it's all the blues, baby.

Together, the music presents a glimpse into the life of a man whom many would call the consummate working musician, Little Bill Engelhart.
